HISTORY
- The Gotham Silk Hosiery Company building was designed and built in 1922 by William Steele & Sons on a site that was previously occupied by the Universal Hosiery Company
- The site went through a couple of expansions, one-story brick addition on the south elevation in 1943 and one on the north elevation in 1955
- The Gotham was one of the largest hosiery manufacturers in the US during the 1920s and 30s
- The Gotham Silk Hosiery Company occupied the building until 1935
- In 1942, the Gotham sold the site, and in 1943 Miller North Broad Storage Company moved in using it as a storage facility
- In the early 1950s, Kiddie City purchased the site and used it as a warehouse and distribution center for toys and recreational products
- In 1968, the Charles Schober Company, a manufacturer of wicker furniture and basket projects, used the building as a warehouse which was the last use before its current use as an apartment complex
